Rent a Car

Renting a car is an ideal option if you intend to explore the region, such as the Pelješac peninsula, Korčula Island, Neretva valley, possibly the neighboring countries of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. These destinations make for lovely day trips, especially as they involve very scenic routes. While you don’t really want to head into the Old Town by car, many other nearby areas, like Srđ hill or ACI Marina Dubrovnik, make for a lovely drive.

Planning to drive around the Dubrovnik area, keep in mind that roads swirl a lot, and it’s hence better to take it easy. Many spots along the way will lure you into stopping for some photos or a coffee, so allow for ample time to reach your final destination. Police checks are also frequent in the whole region, and penalties can set you back significantly. Make sure to wear your seatbelt, and enjoy the drive.

Scooters are ideal for getting around Dubrovnik. Given many one-way roads, traffic gets quite slow around the town at peak times of day. Scooters allow you to surpass the lines of cars and arrive within fairly predictable time frames. It is also much easier to find parking for a scooter than a car.
When driving around the town, exercise caution. In high summer, count on loads of drivers making way in unchartered territory, unfamiliar with the town out or its roads. Thus, take it easy, don’t rush, obey the traffic signs and enjoy!
